This conceptual paper argues for the establishment of a large-scale, open-access National Research Corpus as essential infrastructure for strengthening Zambia’s research and innovation ecosystem. While physical laboratories and scientific equipment are widely recognised as research infrastructure, the linguistic and knowledge-based assets that facilitate collaboration between academic and industry sectors are frequently overlooked. A National Research Corpus, comprising academic publications, technical reports, policy documents, and industry patents, would function as a shared knowledge platform. Using corpus linguistics tools and natural language processing techniques, researchers and industry partners could identify terminological gaps, track innovation trends, and analyse knowledge flows between sectors. Such infrastructure would directly address partnership challenges by providing a common linguistic and conceptual foundation, thereby accelerating problem-solving, reducing research redundancy, and enhancing the value creation networks vital for national economic transformation.
